My Greatest Distraction
by Eva  Habchy

Some days, I sit
As the world spins about
My thoughts lose their center
Inside, I take another route

I watch you- I listen, carefully
to the words in which you say
but our secret is revealed
when your eyes peer my way

I pretend I can't feel it
The vigor your laser beams
but the smile you convey
Confirms you've perceived my dreams

Nonchalantly, I shrug
Paranoia seeps through my veins
But your influence above me
Reminds me of the love to attain

I glance to the floor
To the ceiling, to try and find
Something other than your eyes
A distraction of a different kind

Searching with great effort
Alas, I succumb to failure
As my body struggles, wearily
To resist your magnetic allure

Ignoring the brawl
I'm fighting all the while
You see through me
Beyond my transparent smile

I shake my head, quickly
Bringing my thoughts to a landing
Flying, they soar
My physical body still standing

My laughter on the outside resonates
Surrounding, they could never tell
Though outwards, I'm present
Inside, I've bid them farewell

My greatest distraction
He strides with no care
My eyes follow his movement
My breaths follow his air

The air escapes the room
I'm entranced with his core
His presence, it moves me
His eyes, they explore

My greatest distraction, he wanders within me
He strolls through the depths of my heart
My greatest distraction, his stare, it burns through me
With a promise he'll never depart

With his eyes he tells me
Although we can never be
His heart, is my own
Alone, he'll set my heart free

The promise we made
We've thrown out the door
"I won't fail" I once told you
"That's all I could ask for"

With a vow we've both broken
We've now gone too deep
I will love you forever
Is the vow we both keep

Through the years that have surpassed us
And those yet to come
Through the paths we've both taken
And the paths to become

My love will be with you
Your love, the same
My greatest distraction
I love, these words have my life in them.
