Unattainable Love

By: Sarah Louise Asbury

Every once in awhile,
Right in the middle of an ordinary life,
Love gives us a fairy tale
But not all have a happy ending.
Not all love is returned.
Even though my love for you
Is the strongest I've ever felt.
It will never be returned
For your love is unattainable.
I look deep into your eyes
And I stare into your soul
And I know that you’re the one for me.
I’ve loved you from the beginning
And shall love you 'till we part.
Whenever that may be
And however that may be,
What I feel will never end
Nor will the hole left in my heart.
The deep, cavernous abyss.
For your love is unattainable.
Sealed away, kept hostage
Behind the bars of your beating heart.
Only one holds the key
And that person is not me
And it never will be.
For your love is unattainable.
You do not love me
And you never will.
I just wish I felt the same.
For your soul mate isn’t the one you love...
It’s the one you can’t stop loving.
And that’s why I feel I’m dying inside.
For your love is unattainable
And it’s killing me within.
Even as I lay my head on your shoulder
And you hold me tight,
I feel your soft heart beat
And it warms my soul.
All the pain flows away
And my heart is set free.
I hold you close,
Yet so far away,
As you will never be mine.
For your love is unattainable,
Like the stars in the midnight sky.
So you leave my side
And step away.
Leaving me there,
Standing,
Motionless,
Alone,
Cold,
And in love.
But this love,
This life I yearn for,
The person I live for,
Can never be mine.
For me the pain of love
Is the pain of being alive.
It is a perpetual wound
That never seems to heal.
For your love is unattainable...

People always say don't fall in love
With somebody who doesn't love you back.
I only wish love was that simple...
