I've Loved You From Afar
by Michael Clifton Greene Jr.

I've loved you from afar...
watching you as you come and go into and out of my life.
You come and go as you please,
no questions asked, after all, you're not my wife.

I've loved you from afar...
my feelings growing day by day
Hoping, wishing, praying,
that you'd love me too, somehow, some way.

I've loved you from afar...
trying to be there for you at every turn,
Knowing deep down
that for you and only you, my heart did truly burn.

I've loved you from afar...
feeling your warmth, your kindness, and your smile
And I'd give anything to know the love you give,
if only for a little while.

I've loved you from afar...
watching you as you grow,
Knowing that in my heart of hearts,
your love is all I want to know.

I've loved you from afar...
sitting back for a while,
Because I know, in my dream of dreams,
there you'll be waiting for me with a smile.

I've loved you from afar...
smiling at you when you're not looking at me
Mouthing the words, "I love you",
and praying that you love me.

I've loved you from afar...
I can't hold back my heart,
I have to tell you how I feel,
because holding it back is tearing me apart.

I've loved you from afar...
since the day that we both met,
That very day my life was decided,
and for you my heart was set.

I've loved you from afar...
closer to you I come
Just the thought, the very thought of feeling your love
is making me feel numb.

I've loved you from afar...
putting my heart on the line,
Smiling, touching, holding you,
and praying that soon you'd be mine.

I've loved you from afar,
like Romeo to his Juliet,
Praying up to a balcony high, that I may be permitted
to give you love that you'll never forget.

I've loved you from afar...
trying each day to make you feel special,
to try to make your heart smile,
So I try my best, my very best
if only for a little while.

I've loved you from afar...
watching my feelings grow,
So I love you Elizabeth, my sweet, sweet Elizabeth,
because that is all I know.
