How was I supposed to know
by A GUY
How was I supposed to know...
I would fall in love with you?
What we did was wrong, but it was something to do.
Two bodies wanting to meet late into the night.
Oh what I would give up to make it right.

I guess I wasn't very brazen or bold,
but how was I to know your heart was so cold?
I could have taken what I wanted and left you in need,
but I wanted to be different- I wanted your heart to be freed.

How was I supposed to know...
a love with you is something that won't last,
that your heart belongs to someone, someone deep in your past,
someone centered on himself and what he wants to do.
someone who simply wants to take and use you...

Someone who feeds you what you want to hear.
Someone whose empty words say he loves you so dear,
how he says he's changed and things will be different now.
How he says he loves you and needs to see you... right now, somehow.

How was I supposed to know
a touch and a loving word weren't what was in need.
How was I supposed to know
you didn't want your heart freed?
How was I supposed to know
you didn't want love or respect?

How was I supposed to love you, what did I expect?

How was I supposed to know
  when I met with you?
How was I supposed to know
when we would do what we would do?
How was I supposed to know
when we met each other late into the dark night?
How was I supposed to know
that for you love and respect were things simply not right?

Answer me one question so I can go.
How was I supposed to know?
